MOUNT OLIVE -- The University of Mount Olive will host the photography exhibit, "Running from Bogeys and Chasing Birdies," in the Teresa Pelt Grubbs Art Gallery during the month of February.

The show will display photographs by Jackie Kirby, associate coach of the men's and women's cross country and track and field teams, and by Chip Spiron, head coach of the men's and women's golf teams.

The show was inspired by the athletic department's determination to merge athletics, academics, and the arts throughout the university.

Kirby and Spiron, along with UMO Artist in Residence Larry Lean joined forces to produce a unique blend of artistic interests.

"I capture most of my photos during our golf team tournaments," said Spiron, a UMO sports management alumnus. "The teams love for me to take photos of them during practice, so they can share them with friends and family.

Ms. Kirby is a graduate of Keystone College, where she earned a B.A. in visual arts with a concentration in photography and graphic design.

The show will consist of 14 photographs by each photographer including landscapes, wildlife, and a variety of local North Carolina scenery.

The reception for the show will be held Tuesday, Feb. 3, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Teresa Pelt Grubbs Gallery.
