A Goldsboro woman who crashed her car in an apparent DWI tried to cover her tracks by reporting her car stolen, a Goldsboro police report said.
Lacy Tyler Barnett, 22, 120 Highwoods Drive, is charged with DWI, reckless driving and hit and run. According to the GPD wreck report, Ms. Barnett left Torero's Mexican Restaurant shortly after 2 a.m. and speeded up North John Street at 45 to 50 miles per hour, the report said.
She failed to make the turn at Atlantic Avenue and collided with a warning sign and the railroad tracks there, which are owned by Norfolk Southern Corp.
Ms. Barnett continued on and reported her car stolen about 40 minutes later, the report said.
By that time, a passing GPD officer had already noticed and reported the damage at North John Street and Atlantic Avenue.
Police officers caught up with Ms. Barnett at 3162 Old Smithfield Road in Princenton. While interviewing her there, the officer noticed Ms. Barnett had facial injuries consistant with having been in a motor vehicle accident. He wrote in the report that Ms. Barnett was "grossly impaired."
"When the officer got out there, she still had shattered glass in her hair and in her hoodie she was wearing," Maj. Michael West said.
The damage to the street sign was listed at $100, and the damage to the Norfolk Southern railroad was reported as minor with no monetary value listed.
Ms. Barnett was released with a written promise.
