Traffic toward U.S. 117 was rerouted from A Street to North George Street for more than an hour Wednesday afternoon after a tractor-trailer overturned at the corner of A Street and Florida Street.
Goldsboro police Sgt. Doug Bethea said the driver of the tractor-trailer was arrested, not because of the accident, but because he had a warrant out for his arrest.
Joseph Wayne Blizzard, 38, of 1273 Nahunta Road, Pikeville, was placed in the Wayne County Jail under an unsecured $500 bond.
"He was just going too fast, took the corner and had a wreck," Bethea said.
Seth Raynor, a customer of Auto Image on Florida Street, was outside at the time of the accident.
Raynor said he heard the crash, but did not see everything that happened.
"We were outside talking, and it was loud," Raynor said. "Loud enough to turn around and say, 'What is that?'"
He said power lines up and down the street jumped four or five feet on the poles, but none came down, and no one in the area lost power.
A Bobcat was brought to the scene to clear debris off the street that fell out of the bed of the truck, then a tow truck arrived and used a winch to flip the rig back over before towing it from the scene.
