Wayne County Commission Chairman Wayne Aycock Wednesday evening said that he had made a mistake in parliamentary procedure during the board's election of officers Tuesday morning.
Aycock said that he had failed to call for a no vote during the re-election of Ed Cromartie as board vice chairman.
Aycock apologized for the error saying that he felt it important to let the public know what had happened.
Cromartie received the only nomination for vice chairman.
When Aycock called for the vote in favor of the nomination Commissioners Bill Pate and Ray Mayo did not raise their hands. Normally, board policy requires that commissioners who do not vote are counted as yes votes.
However, in this case there was no opportunity for them to vote no.
During the meeting, no one called attention to the failure.
Aycock said he had spoken with County Attorney Borden Parker and that a second vote would not be required.
