The Wayne County Board of Education will hold a special called meeting at 5:30 p.m. today to discuss filling positions due to resignations and to act on matters pertaining to the superintendent's contract.

The board will likely also begin the introductory process of how to search for a new leader, given Dr. Steven Taylor's two-week notice. He announced Wednesday afternoon that he will retire effective Dec. 1.

He said he had met earlier in the week with school board members individually to share the news and submitted his letter of resignation to Board Chairman John P. Grantham. Taylor then called together his leadership team, central office staff and administrators for the formal announcement Wednesday.

"I think the next steps will probably be to look to name an interim superintendent for whatever time they deem necessary and then while that's in progress, like they did before, they'll advertise, interview and make a selection," Taylor said.
