A campaign to bring the Air Force Thunderbirds to the 2015 Wings Over Wayne Air Show has made its way to social media -- with Facebook and Twitter posts popping up to generate buzz for the show and, potentially, land the aerial act as its headliner.

4th Fighter Wing Commander Col. Mark Slocum had announced last month that Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and the Military Affairs Committee were formulating plans to host an air show next year.

The popular event traditionally draws a huge turnout and generates millions for the local economy.

Adding fuel to speculation that the show is a done deal, a Facebook page for Wings Over Wayne announced an effort to ensure the Thunderbirds aerial demonstration team is part of the event.

"We are working hard to convince the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds that the Seymour Johnson Community wants to see them in the skies over Goldsboro this spring!" a Nov. 7 post reads. "Let's get to 10,000 'Likes' by December 10, the day they make their final spring schedule, to show them how much we want Thunderbirds!"
