Members of the Goldsboro-Wayne County Interagency Drug Squad seized three pounds of high-grade marijuana shipped to Wayne County from Las Vegas in cereal boxes Friday when executing a search warrant on a residence on Azalea Drive.
Two California men have been charged and additional arrests are pending.
Agents said four family-size cereal boxes were used to conceal one-pound sealed bags of particularly potent marijuana known on the street as "loud" because of how rich it smells.
"Apparently they already sold some of it because we seized three bags, but this fourth bag was empty," one agent said.
The agents asked not to be identified due to the nature of their work.
A small quantity of cocaine was also seized, along with more than $5,000 in cash. Agents were still coming across stacks of cash Monday morning when processing the suspects' personal property.
James Xavier Knight of Oakland, Calif., and Kert Charles Henderson of Vallejo, Calif., are charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana.
Each man is being held in the Wayne County Jail under a $10,000 secured bond.
According to a press release issued Monday, the drug squad received information that a drug trafficking organization was operating out of a residence at 1805 Azalea Drive.
Following the execution of the search warrant Friday, it was learned the men had shipped the marijuana from Las Vegas, then flew in from California to complete a drug transaction.
"We could only charge them with possession with intent," the agent said.
The amount seized has a potential street value of more than $20,000.
State law requires that for a person to be guilty of drug trafficking, the person must be in possession of more than 10 pounds of marijuana.
