The man charged with murder for his alleged involvement of the death of Donna Simpson is also an escaped fugitive from Ohio, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said Friday.
Clifton Wayne Griffin, 49, of 301 Leavie Drive is being held in the Wayne County Jail on an open count of murder.
The victim was found dead inside a residence off Leavie Drive Oct. 13.
Det. Sgt. Tammy Mozingo, the lead investigator in the case, said a fugitive warrant from the state of Ohio arrived charging Griffin with escape -- but that there was no indication of what Griffin had been serving time for or how long it had been since he escaped.
"We don't really have any details on that case," she said. "They just sent us the warrant."
Griffin allegedly confessed to murdering Mrs. Simpson -- telling investigators working the case that her remains had been left inside the mobile home where she was discovered for about three weeks.
"He says it is about three weeks. Her work schedule and what other people were saying about how they hadn't seen her in about three weeks, it corroborates his story," Mozingo said.
