One-stop voting begins Thursday for mid-term elections, and to accommodate early voters, the county is opening five one-stop voting sites.

One-stop voting (often referred to as early voting) allows voters to cast their ballots before Election Day, which is Nov. 4, at any available site in the county.

All the sites will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Oct. 31 and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, with a few exceptions.

The Veterans Services Office, 2001 E. Ash St., is the only site that will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26.

The other sites include Belfast Fire Station, 3213 U.S. 117 North; Little River Shopping Center, 1312C W. Grantham St; New Hope Friends Church, 441 U.S. 70 East; and the Mount Olive Civic Center, 110 W. Main St., Mount Olive.

Voters will also be able to drop off their absentee ballots at one of these sites.

Citizens will not be able to register to vote at the one-stop voting sites, but registered voters will be able to correct or to update any information.

On Election Day, voters will only be able to cast their ballot at their assigned precincts.

The Wayne County Board of Elections has a website dedicated to answering questions on voting procedure and where to vote. The website includes a link to frequently asked questions, absentee by mail procedures and one-stop locations and hours, along with sample ballots and a precinct locator.
