Old Waynesborough Park will be full of canines and their humans Saturday during the sixth annual Bark in the Borough.

It will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with registration at 8:30 a.m.

Sponsored by the Wayne County Humane Society, the event is a fundraiser to help the organization's spay/neuter program and pet food pantry for low/fixed income families in Wayne County.

There will be several competitions throughout the day, including a best costume contest just for pets at 10 a.m. at the pavilion, sponsored by Carolina Mini Storage. Prizes will be awarded.

Then at 10:30 a.m., there will be an owner/dog look alike contest.

People and their pets can dress alike or just look alike. Prizes will be awarded.

A most kisses competition will take place at 11 a.m. at the pavilion.

Someone will count the number of kisses a pet gives its owner, and prizes will be given.

A military dog team from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base will give a demonstration at noon.

A Frisbee contest will take place at 12:30 p.m., sponsored by the Humane Society. Prizes will be awarded.

Suzi Wharton and her pet therapy dog, Millie, will have a story telling time at 12:45 p.m. for the children attending.

At 1:30 p.m., there's a dog biscuit catching contest where dogs can balance a biscuit on their nose and catch it or their owners can throw a biscuit for them to catch. Dog biscuits will be provided and awards will be given.

Dr. Lafevers Dentistry will sponsor the best dog smile competition at 1 p.m.

Those wanting to participate in the competitions can register at the event.

Throughout the day, various vendors will be selling their wares.

Some of those will be Scentsy, Twisted Sister Gifts, Pets Unlimited and more.

Welfare of Our Furry Friends and Great Dane rescues will be on hand with dogs that need homes.

Also during the event, visitors can get their dogs microchipped for $10 each. One-year rabies shots will be available for $10 each. And you can get your dog's nails clipped for $5.

The main event for the day will be the dog walk on the trails at the park. Cost is $20 plus a bag of dog or cat food per person or $25 plus a bag of dog or cat food per family.

Also at Bark in the Borough, Old Waynesborough Park will have a drawing for an 8-by-10-foot Turner greenhouse kit.

Tickets are $5 each. Proceeds will be used for programs, events and improvements at Old Waynesborough Park.

Although it's a dog-type event, people may take their cats for the rabies shots, microchipping and nail clipping.
