Veterans Day parade entries sought

Entries are being sought for the Wayne County Veterans Day Parade to be held Tuesday, Nov. 11, in downtown Goldsboro.

Organizers say the have the basic logistics of the parade complete and are  now seeking entries.

The parade will start at 11 a.m.

Entry applications can be picked up Monday through Friday from 8 a.m, until 6 p.m. from the Veterans Services Office located at 2001 E. Ash St., or the DAV Chapter 45 Offices at 212 E. Mulberry St. on Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. They can also be obtained from the Wayne County Veterans website, http://www.waynegov.com/Page/516, or by calling Bill Graham at 919-394-2200. Entry lineup areas will be on South Center Street as in past years. The parade will commence from the corner of Spruce Street and John Street, then left onto John Street. The reviewing stand will be placed on John Street in front of St. Paul United Methodist Church. The parade will continue northbound on John Street, turning right on Mulberry Street to William Street, turning right on William Street where it will continue to Spruce Street, turning right on Spruce Street to follow back to its beginning point. All applications must be returned to the Veterans Services Office by Friday, Nov. 7. All entries are expected to display a a patriotic theme.

There will be a formal wreath laying ceremony 1 p.m. at the Wayne County Veterans Memorial located downtown at 224 E. Walnut St. Hallett Mayo, a World War II prisoner of war, will serve as grand marshal. Col. Mark Slocum of the 4th Fighter Wing at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base will be the guest speaker.
