A Mount Olive man has been charged with first-degree rape of a child after an investigation conducted by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators said the abuse began when the child was 4 or 5 years old. She is now 12.

It took investigators less than a day to identify and to capture the suspect.

Feliz Munoz, 26, 650 Baker Chapel Road, is being held in the Wayne County Jail under a $500,000 secured bond.

"He's a bad one," Maj. Tom Effler said.

Additional charges are pending.

Effler said no other victims have come forward, but each encounter Munoz had with the child would be a charge against him.

"Investigators are trying to determine that now," Effler said.

The investigation began after patrol deputies were dispatched to Wayne Memorial Hospital Sunday in reference to a sexual assault.

It was determined during the investigation that the suspect was an acquaintance of the victim.

Det. Sgt. Robert Golimowski and Det. Sgt. Mike Kabler worked to identify and locate Munoz, and were assisted by the Mount Olive Police Department.

The investigation is ongoing. A first appearance in Wayne County District Court was scheduled for Munoz today.
