Two vehicles traveling east on Elm Street traded gunfire Monday at 10:50 a.m., according to a Goldsboro police report.
A city Animal Control officer witnessed the shooting.
Officer Cary Faulcon, 57, said he saw a white Ford Explorer and a silver Dodge Stratus trade shots in the 1000 block of East Elm Street.
Goldsboro police located the Stratus a short time later in the 300 block of East Elm Street.
The car, at the time, was being driven by Timial Novija Kornegay, 25, of North Virginia Street.
Patrol officers caught up with Ms. Kornegay after she had just dropped off Fiante Semaj Amerson, 23, and another black male whom she did not name.
Ms. Kornegay told the officers that while she was driving with the men in her car, a white Explorer appeared behind her car and someone inside it fired multiple shots into her car.
She said nobody was hurt and she did not know why the shots were fired at her vehicle, according to the report.
Investigators determined that three rounds struck Ms. Kornegay's car.
Officers also found shell casings from a handgun inside her car.
No charges have been filed. The investigation is ongoing, police said.
