FREMONT -- Fremont is hoping to lure a Bojangles restaurant to town.
A petition asking the restaurant chain to consider opening a location in Fremont has been drawn up and signed by many of the town's residents.
Ira Reynolds, pastor of First Missionary Baptist Church, will be meeting with Bojangles officials in Kinston next week to discuss plans for a potential Bojangles in Fremont.
The proposed location for the restaurant is off I-795, Reynolds said at a meeting of the town's Small Town Economic Prosperity committee Tuesday night, and residents who attended the meeting said placing a Bojangles near the highway would provide the town with an economic boost.
In other business, the town's STEP committee is eyeing a plan to receive grant funds from the state to further develop one of its parks.
Chairman Kevin Spivey said Tuesday that if the money is received, it will have to go toward only one park. Spivey also said decisions are still being made about which park will be listed on the grant application, but that the committee will be applying for funds from the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund.
Arnette-Muldrow, the marketing company that was supposed to be visiting Fremont this week to formulate an improvement plan for the town, has delayed the trip and will not be in town until next month.
Reynolds also said his church will be hosting an informational session on the Affordable Health Care Act and the new Voter ID laws in North Carolina Oct. 18.
He said residents are encouraged to come to the sessions, as experts will be available to educate them on how to sign up for health care and which programs individuals qualify for.
Also at the meeting, residents can learn how the new voter ID laws will affect them once they take effect in 2016.
