Man, 28, facing charge of rape

A Goldsboro man faces rape charges after the alleged victim came forward.
Matthew Gordon Williams, 28, 3630 Stevens Mill Road, is charged with statutory rape of a 13-, 14- or 15-year-old by a defendant more than six years older than the victim.
Wayne County Sheriff's deputies began investigating the incident Tuesday, after receiving a report of a sexual assault that took place somewhere in the Stevens Mill Road area.
"The victim came to law enforcement seeking advice on a domestic matter. From there it was determined that this crime had occurred," Capt. Richard Lewis said.
Williams is being held in the Wayne County Jail under a $750,000 secured bond.
He was scheduled to have a first appearance in Wayne County District Court Wednesday, but according to court records, an attorney has been appointed to the case.
