A Mount Olive man is recovering after fighting off an alleged attack by a would-be robber wielding a pair of scissors Sunday.
According to a Goldsboro police report, Henry Oates, 52, of Thunder Swamp Road, told police he was walking from Walmart to the Irish Inn when he was attacked in the parking lot of Sunburst Foods.
The alleged attack took place at 3:14 p.m.
Oates told investigators a black man approached him and said, "Give it up." The man then demanded Oates' wallet, the report said.
The man was described as nearly 6 feet tall and weighing 160 pounds -- wearing black shorts and no shirt. He was holding a pair of scissors.
Oates said he fought the man off, but received several cuts in the process.
After the man ran away, Oates returned to the Irish Inn and a friend called 911, according to the report.
Wayne County EMS transported him to Wayne Memorial Hospital where he was treated for a large laceration to his thigh, a 10-inch cut to his left arm and several superficial cuts to his right hand.
The police report lists the investigation as "inactive."
