There will be a community forum on teaching babies to talk and young children to read Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Paramount Theatre.

Sen. Louis Pate and Dr. David Tayloe will co-host the forum. Two guest speakers will present information. The forum is sponsored by Goldsboro Pediatrics, Partnership for Children of Wayne County (Smart Start), WAGES Head Start, Wayne County Health Department, Wayne Memorial Hospital, Wayne County Public Schools, Wayne County Public Library, North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service, Goldsboro Housing Authority and Wayne County Chamber of Commerce.

The forum will address questions such as why more than two-thirds of fourth graders struggling with reading, what effect it will have on the economy and community and what people can do to improve the reading ability of elementary school students so they are more likely to become responsible tax-paying residents of the county.

The forum is for families, early childhood and public school educators, health and human services professionals and the general public.
