A court case involving a man whose dogs mauled an elderly woman was continued in Wayne County District Court on Wednesday.

Terry Tremain Butler, 35, of 112 Country Run Lane faces charges of allowing dogs to run at large and creating a disturbance, Class 3 misdemeanors.

According to N.C. General Statute 15A-1340.23, the maximum punishment for a person convicted of a Class 3 misdemeanor with no more than three prior convictions is 20 days in jail and a fine of up to $200.

Mildred Game, 71, of 114 Country Run Lane, suffered multiple serious injuries as a result of the attack.

She is recovering after being hospitalized at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Her own dog, who came to her rescue, had to be put down due to its injuries.

One of the four pit bulls involved in the July 25 attack was killed at the scene. The remaining dogs were euthanized Monday.

Mrs. Game was attacked while watering her garden early in the morning. Neighbors found Mrs. Game in her front yard after she managed to break free of the dogs, which had turned on her dog.

Two of the dogs charged the deputy as he got out of his vehicle, forcing him to shoot and kill one of them.

Animal control arrived minutes later and secured the remaining three animals.
