Wayne County will build a new Spring Creek Middle School on the east side of N.C. 111 South at Park Road just north of Spring Creek High School.
Groundbreaking ceremonies will be Thursday for the new Grantham and the Spring Creek middle schools.
The ceremony for Grantham Middle School will be held at 9:30 a.m. at 3054 U.S. 13 South, just east of Grantham.
The Spring Creek Middle School ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. at 3563 N.C. 111 South near Spring Creek High School.
The groundbreaking events are open to the public.
Both new schools are scheduled to open for the 2015-16 school year.
"This is an exciting time for our district, our county and especially those communities in which these two schools will be located," said Dr. Steven Taylor, Wayne County Public Schools superintendent. "These projects have been years in the making, and it means so much to these school communities that the Wayne County Board of Education and the Wayne County Board of Commissioners were able to bring them to fruition.
"These schools will not only impact those students who attend them, but their high performance 21st century designs will reflect that our school district and county are working to be on the cutting edge of education."
The county last month closed on the $38.5 million loan for the $46.9 million project.
