Charges added for July shooting

Goldsboro police have charged a Goldsboro man being held in the Wayne County Jail under weapons charges with two counts of attempted murder for a July 9 shooting on Oak Street.
Police charged Daktari Xavier Harris, 22, of 1106-B Olivia Lane, with two counts of first degree attempted murder in connection with the shooting of Montana Antwain Best, 32, and Travion Lamonte Best, 20, in the 400 block of West Oak Street.
The two men were shot sometime before noon July 9.
Harris was already in jail at the time the charges were handed down after a short vehicle pursuit July 17 leading to his arrest on weapons charges. He was charged with two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a stolen firearm and resisting an officer.
He was placed under an original $760,000 bond. That amount was increased to $1.46 million after the new charges were added.
At the time of Harris' arrest July 17, police said more charges would be coming as part of an ongoing investigation into the rash of shootings across Goldsboro in recent weeks.
This is not the first time Harris has been charged with a violent crime. In June 2009, at age 18, Harris was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury as well as two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
