Two to face charges in meth arrests

The N.C. State Bureau of Investigation Clandestine Laboratory Unit assisted the Goldsboro-Wayne County Interagency Drug Task Force in breaking up two separate methamphetamine manufacturing operations Tuesday, both in the Grantham community.
One suspect is wanted in connection with the investigation and is considered a fugitive. Another is in custody.
Investigators discovered the first meth lab being run out of a camper parked in a field nine-tenths of a mile down Charles Massey Road.
Arrest warrants have been secured for James Edward Hayes Jr., 34, of 358 B Edwards Store Road in Goldsboro.
Hayes is wanted on one count of manufacturing methamphetamine.
A joint investigation into the illegal manufacture and distribution of methamphetamine in the Goldsboro and Wayne County area led investigators to Hayes, who is now considered a fugitive.
The second meth lab, located in a residence at 109 Kelvin Lane, was discovered after drug squad officers and the SBI executed a search warrant obtained for the home of Jerry Thomas Lane, 33.
Officers went into the residence at 11:05 p.m.
According to the press release, Lane and unidentified co-conspirators were allegedly manufacturing meth inside the residence.
Officers located multiple items, including precursor chemicals, which are used in the manufacture of meth, the press release said.
Lane is charged with a single count each of manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a dwelling and possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as two counts of possession of a precursor chemical -- lithium and sulfuric acid.
Lane was placed in the Wayne County Jail under a $500,000 secure bond. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges and arrests are forthcoming.
