The Mount Olive Police Department says a man killed after he was struck by a car Sunday remains unidentified today.
"We had a motor vehicle versus a pedestrian very early Sunday morning. A black male was hit, dead on arrival, with no ID," Chief Bran Rhodes said.
The collision took place at 5:32 a.m. in the 900 block of North Breazeale Avenue.
Apparently the victim walked right out in front of the vehicle as it was headed north on Breazeale, Rhodes said.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Israel Castro, 34, of Nelson Smith Drive in Dudley. He and four passengers occupied the vehicle, a 2002 Ford, at the time of the wreck.
Castro will not be charged, Rhodes said.
He said the police department's next step in identifying the victim is to take fingerprints and have them sent to the SBI lab in Raleigh.
"We're asking if anybody knows anything about the victim, or has anyone missing, please call the Mount Olive Police at 919-658-5031, ext. 100." Rhodes said.
