WCC instructor delivers lecture at national meeting

Tracy Schmeltzer, chair of Wayne Community College's Business and Accounting Department, was a presenter at a national conference for accounting teachers held recently in New Orleans.
Mrs. Schmeltzer spoke at the Teachers of Accounting at Two Year Colleges (TATYC) Annual Conference on the use of "smartpens" in accounting instruction.
"Implementing Pencasts in Accounting Courses" promoted the use of this tool as "a way to maximize the freedom of expression and rich context afforded by pen and paper while delivering the connectivity, archiving system, and 'capture' capability of a computer."
"Smartpens record everything you write and hear so you or your students will never miss a word or concept. You can post your lectures or step-by-step illustrations in Moodle/Blackboard and Facebook," explained Mrs. Schmeltzer, who uses the technology at WCC. "Smartpens can allow you to teach in a whole new way."
TATYC has served as a forum for sharing innovative ideas in curriculum, teaching techniques, and methodology for 40 years. It was organized to encourage networking on issues of significance to accounting education and has as its primary objective the advancement of accounting education, emphasizing the development of creative and innovative teaching and curriculum.
