Jim Daniels and his wife, Kathy, are shown with a portrait of him presented by the Tuscarora Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Jim Daniels was named the recipient of the Boy Scout Tuscarora Council Distinguished Citizen Award on Thursday night at the Walnut Creek Country Club.

Daniels, co-owner of Daniels and Daniels Construction Co., was recognized for his many years of volunteer work with the council. He is a past president of the council's board of directors.

"It couldn't go to a finer gentleman," said Danny Jackson, a longtime Scout supporter and president of Jackson and Sons Heating and Air Conditioning.

"Jim is a man on whom you can bestow many accolades," said Keith Gunnet, financial adviser at Wells Fargo. "He is truly someone you can't say enough good things about."

Gunnet cited Daniels' "quiet leadership" and said Daniels has "always worked and fought to make Wayne County a better place.

"He has lived his life by the Scout laws. Jim is the rare person to whom all these apply," Gunnet said, ticking off the list of qualities every Scout is expected to display.

Over the past few years, Daniels has led efforts to improve the facilities at Camp Tuscarora. He was praised for his determination and vision.

Daniels accepted the award with characteristic modesty.

"Our community and our nation needs the Scouting program," Daniels said. "I think our best days are ahead."
