A Goldsboro woman told police she knows the man who broke into her home early Sunday morning, kidnapped her dog and then killed it by smashing it against the front fender of her car, according to a Goldsboro police report.
Warrants have been secured for the arrest of Cowayne Langston, 38, 705 E. Holly St., on charges of second-degree burglary, larceny of a dog, cruelty to animals and damage to property.
According to the report, Angela Lathon, 48, 130 Dupont Circle, went down the street to pick up her daughter from a friend's house just before 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
When she returned home, she found her front door wide open and the lights on inside the residence.
A few seconds later, Langston allegedly came out of the house holding the dog and a case of beer.
Langston approached the vehicle and slammed the dog on the right front fender, the report said.
The dog is listed on the report as a pit bull valued at $150. The damage to the vehicle, a 2000 Cadillac Catera, is estimated at $350.
