Greene County investigators had to look no further than the Wayne County Jail to locate a Goldsboro teen they say is guilty of a Greene County murder.
Derejay Williams Speede, 17, of 129 Mill Creek Road, is being held without bond in the Greene County Jail on an open count of murder.
Speede has been charged in connection with the murder of Linwood Jones, 49, outside his home in Hookerton at about 10 p.m. April 24.
Greene County Sheriff Lemmie Smith said he did not know the circumstances that led to the shooting.
"We don't know (why) for sure, but he shot this guy in the back," Smith said.
Speede was developed as a suspect throughout the course of the investigation.
Smith said the investigation is ongoing.
Speede was being held in the Wayne County Jail under a $400,000 secured bond for allegedly shooting a 51-year-old woman in the abdomen during a botched robbery at the Reserve at Bradbury Place April 19, and for an armed robbery of another teen on Central Heights Road just one day prior.
He is due in Greene County Court Friday for a first appearance on first-degree murder charges.
