Dudley man faces heroin charges

KENANSVILLE -- A Dudley man is facing numerous drug charges after he was stopped for a traffic violation in Duplin County.
Monterius Smith, 28, 107 Willow Road, Dudley, was charged by Duplin County sheriff's deputies with three counts of trafficking heroin, possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or distribute heroin, possession of heroin, manufacture heroin, maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was placed under a $150,000 secured bond.
Smith was stopped April 9 by the Duplin Sheriff's Office Interstate Criminal Enforcement (DICE) team on Interstate 40 near Warsaw for a traffic violation.
A K-9 search of the vehicle revealed 35 plastic bags of a white powdered substance weighing nine grams which field-tested positive for heroin.
