An arrest has been made in a kidnapping that took place April 10 -- an incident that saw a man taken from a residence on Ivey Lane in Pikeville and later located in Fremont.
Jerry Mason, 39, of N.C. Highway 581 in north Kenly, is charged with second-degree kidnapping and is currently being held in the Wayne County Jail under a $75,000 secured bond.
Mason was located and arrested Tuesday, after interviews with the victim and his girlfriend provided Fremont police and Wayne County Sheriff's deputies with the identities of the suspects.
Fremont police discovered the victim Thursday -- bound with duct tape at the hands and feet, unclothed and covered in yellow spray paint -- inside a Fremont home.
"The family got concerned about him and couldn't find him. Just about the time they reported him missing is when the Fremont police happened upon him," Capt. Richard Lewis said.
According to a press release issued Tuesday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, Fremont police were in the area investigating a separate incident when the victim was discovered.
Another suspect is wanted in connection with the crime, but his/her identity has yet to be released.
