The Spirit of North Carolina Awards for Campaign Excellence is sponsored annually by the United Way of North Carolina. These awards provide statewide recognition for employers who have demonstrated outstanding commitment and support to their community through local United Way involvement.
Businesses, organizations, governmental entities, health care as well as educational institutions -- large and small -- are nominated to receive an award because they stand up to be counted as an investor of positive change, and stand out from the crowd to raise their voice, increase their influence, and make a difference in their community. This year, the Spirit Committee judged 74 outstanding applications and selected 39 winners. Awards were presented during the United Way of North Carolina's Awards Luncheon in Pinehurst.
Nominees were judged on a variety of criteria outlined in the Spirit of North Carolina Standards of Excellence including leadership giving, volunteerism, employee participation and giving levels, year-round education, corporate support, incentive programs, and campaign rallies just to name a few.
Wayne Memorial Hospital was a recipient of a Spirit of North Carolina Award, for the Hospital/Health System 1501-2500 Employees Category. In 2013 Wayne Memorial Hospital was the top employee campaign in Wayne County raising $200,351 which will impact an average of 4,007 Wayne County lives.
