The Wayne County Public Library is sponsoring a series of lectures and programs on baseball, with the first in the series coming Wednesday evening at 7 when Author Brett Friedlander will discuss his book "Chasing Moonlight: The True Story of Field of Dreams' Doc Graham."
The book tells the story of the character from the film who was as famous for his off-the-field achievements as he was for his on-the-field ones.
In the movie, which stars Kevin Costner, Graham is portrayed by the late actor Burt Lancaster.
The program is expected to last about an hour.
Other programs scheduled include a look at Wayne County's rich baseball heritage on Tuesday, April 29, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The county has sent several players to the major leagues over the years and the program will recount their exploits as well as provide a look at baseball memorabilia.
Later in the series, rarely seen movie footage from the archives of the Baseball Hall of Fame will be shown. There will be two showings on Tuesday, May 6. The first will be from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and the second from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The films will include segments dating back to the silent era, home movies by the players themselves, interviews with such famous players Ted Williams, and commercials featuring well-known stars such as Hank Aaron.
