Majesty Rose says week 'stressful' after 'American Idol' close call

This past week has been an emotional roller coaster for "American Idol" contestant Majesty Rose.

She made the Top 10, guaranteeing herself a spot on the show's "Live Tour" this summer, but not before spending half of Thursday night's results show languishing on the hot seat as part of the "bottom three" vote-getters for the week, along with Sam Woolf and Ben Briley.

As it turned out, Woolf was pronounced "safe" and moments later Majesty Rose was granted a reprieve as well. But the Top 10 honor proved bittersweet.

At this stage of the competition, she admitted it's an emotional upheaval having to see a fellow contestant leave each week.

"All of us are close," she said Monday. "It was really hard to say good-bye, and it was really scary for me (to be in the bottom)."

The good news for her scarcely had time to sink in, she said, but fortunately there was a bit of a break before preparing for this week's shows.

"I've had time to rest," she said. "I have been able to have a lot of time on the weekend."

The singing competition keeps the contestants very busy. Not only are the singers performing their individual talent each week, but are also rehearsing for group numbers and involved in photo shoots and filming commercials that air on the program.

"I have been doing a lot of interviews and stuff, just really trying to think of who I am as an artist, how I want to portray myself," Majesty said. "I think you're going to be able to see that in the next round."

The Top 10 finalists' theme this week will be a song that made the Top 10 on the Billboard chart, from 2010 to the present. Majesty couldn't tip her hand on what she'll be singing, but appeared upbeat and comfortable with the process, suggesting the contestants are given advance notice before making the selection.

"We pick our songs pretty fast. They kind of overlap each week," she said.

The show airs on Fox TV on Wednesday from 8-10 p.m. and is live but tape-delayed. The Thursday broadcast is also tape-delayed and airs from 9-10 p.m. Next week, the results show is abbreviated to a 30-minute format.

Two viewing parties continue in the area for anyone interested in watching with a crowd.

Wayne Community College will hold its third pep rally and viewing party tonight, starting at 7:30 p.m. in the WCC atrium, with the show broadcast on the big screen in Moffatt Auditorium.

Tara Humphries, WCC public information officer, said there is a theme for this week's event.

"We've been thinking about what makes Majesty so special, and one way she stands out is her unique fashion sense," she said. "We're inviting everyone to show us your best Majesty styles this Wednesday. We'll hold a 'Majesty Dress-Alike' contest during the pep rally, 7:30-8 p.m. in the Wayne Learning Center Atrium."

There will be prizes for the best in youth and college-age/adult categories, she said. All of the participants will get to model their outfits during the viewing party.

The event will also be streamed live, at www.waynecc.edu/majesty-mania/ and viewers are encouraged to use social media to comment at #WCC4Majesty and #MajestyMania.

The Family YMCA will continue to host the crowd for a viewing party Thursday during the results show, 8:30-10 p.m.
