The 2014 Winter Glitz at the University of Mount Olive raised just over $15,000 for student scholarships. Nearly 200 people attended this year's event.

The Winter Glitz is one of the Alumni Association's larger fundraisers. Both live and silent auctions provide attendees with an opportunity to give back to their alma mater while allowing them to reconnect with former classmates.

"Winter Glitz is a way the University Alumni Association can come together to build community among each other while doing something good to help students," Alumni Director Hope McPherson Fields said. "(Alumni) understand the importance of giving back because many were also once recipients of donor generosity."

As part of this year's theme, "Arabian Nights: Fly Away on a Magic Carpet," guests dressed in desert garb and were served "Arabian" punch as they looked at 130 silent auction items. The evening's entertainment was provided by Miss Goldsboro 2014, Emily Tucker, and UMO alumna Kelli Kosuda. UMO choir students, who called themselves the "Arabian Knights", performed songs from Disney's "Aladdin." Pianist Tom Casey provided music for the event. UMO alumnus George Futrelle acted as auctioneer, and Alumni President Tom Patterson was the master of ceremonies.
