Marvin Devon Breeden, 21, pleaded guilty to first-degree rape in Wayne County Superior Court Wednesday.

He received an active sentence of 20 to 25 years in prison.

According to testimony, the victim awoke in the middle of the night on Oct. 31, 2012, to find a man pulling a pillow over her face and putting a knife to her throat.

Breeden, a friend of the victim's son, said he broke into the home to steal guns. He made the victim get up and help him look for the items he wanted to steal.

When he could not find what he was looking for, he said he would take her instead.

After committing the rape, Breeden admitted to locking the victim in a room, taking some property from the home and then stealing the victim's car.

He was located a short time later by Wayne County Sheriff's Office investigators and taken into custody after a car chase and foot pursuit.

The victim, asked if she wanted to speak to the court before her attacker was sentenced, said she felt sorry for him and his family.

Prosecutor Terry Light praised her for coming forward and going through the lengthy judicial process. Thanks to her courage, Breeden will not be able to repeat his crime, Ms. Light said. Most such offenders are repeat offenders, she added.

"There is always another one coming," Ms. Light said.
