The fifth annual Middle School Career Fair is coming up next week and organizers are encouraging area businesses to support the event.

"It's not too late to be a part of the middle school career fair this year to give Wayne County seventh-graders a sense of future career possibilities," said Karen Burnette, chairperson of the committee. "The snow last week may have slowed up applications being returned to us, so we really need to know by this Friday, Feb. 7."

An estimated 1,400 seventh-graders are expected to attend this year's fair, representing public, private and home schools.

Hosted by the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce's Wayne Education Network, it will be held Tuesday, Feb. 11, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Family YMCA.

School counselors have been working with students in preparation of the event, to help them plan their areas of interest.

Upon arrival, Mrs. Burnette said, students will be allowed to visit the career booths in those areas of interest as well as explore businesses or careers they may not have seen before.

"We hope to broaden their career aspirations beyond what they may or may not have experienced thus far," she said, adding, "We want to spark an interest to help our future workforce start setting goals so that they can be prepared to maximize the benefits of high school."

Any business that is interested in being a part of the upcoming career fair is invited to contact Janet Brock at the Chamber at 919-734-2247.
