Wayne County and Goldsboro city offices remain closed today because of the inclement weather.

Updates regarding potential delays for Thursday will be posted on the county's website at www.waynegov.com and on the county's Facebook page.

People may also call the county weather hotline at 919-731-1150 for more information.

Updates regarding the city closings will be available at www.ci.goldsboro.nc.us.

Wayne County Public Schools made the announcement Tuesday evening to close schools today. Ken Derksen, director of communication services, said he was uncertain whether an additional snow day would be necessary on Thursday.

"At this point, no official decision has been made for Thursday," he said this morning. "We'll continue to monitor the weather and stay in communication with emergency management, as far as what the road conditions would be at the end of the day. That'll help us make the best decision possible for students and our staff."

The district has an automated notification system for such announcements, Derksen said, and it is also posted on the district's website, www.waynecounty schools.org.

Wayne Community College also called off classes today, but has not determined the status for Thursday.

"Our official policy is that it would be made by 5:30 tomorrow," public information officer Tara Humphries said. "I'm certain that the administration would be able to do it earlier than that."

The college also has a notification system, "wcc alert," Ms. Humphries said, which automatically sends updates such as class cancellations to students' school emails, their phone and to text if they have that capability. The information is also posted on the school's website, www.wcc.edu.

Private schools around the county also closed today, and announcements about their status for tomorrow, as well as those of area child care centers, are expected to be made later today.
