A 75-year-old Wayne County woman successfully defended her home against a burglar Friday, according to a press release issued by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
Joseph Nick Newsome is in the Wayne County Jail under a $164,000 secured bond on charges of first-degree burglary, breaking and entering, larceny, unauthorized use of a motor-vehicle, no operator's license and uttering a forged instrument.
Newsome allegedly forced entry into the residence at 1001 W. New Hope Road Friday night intending to commit a felony, the report said. He was chased out of the home by the resident, not identified in the press release.
Investigators, working with a description of both the suspect and the vehicle he was driving, were able to locate, identify and apprehend Newsome a short time later.
He was taken into custody and subsequently charged. He is due in Wayne County District Court March 11.
