A Canadian solar farm supply company working with NARENCO, a solar developer out of Charlotte, announced plans this week for three new solar farms for Wayne County. Two are to be located near Goldsboro and the third in Mount Olive.

A fourth project is planned for Kenansville in Duplin County.

Altogether, the four projects would create a potential capacity of 25.3 megawatts. The projects will require 84,480 solar modules.

Each solar farm is expected to produce more than 9,000 megawatt hours per year.

The capacity of a 6.4 megawatt solar farm is equal to about one one-hundredth of a typical coal power plant. Each will cover about 40 acres.

The three Wayne County projects are located at the intersection of Indian Springs Road and Davis Road in Mount Olive, on U.S. 70 East close to the Village Green near Walnut Creek and on U.S. 13 South near Herring Road.

All three announced Wayne County solar farms use ground mounted, fixed tilt modules. The solar farms are estimated to be complete in the first quarter of 2014. Construction is estimated to take 14 weeks.

The three newly announced solar farms join six other Wayne County solar farms either constructed or currently in development. So far, three solar farms have been completed in the county. Another is currently being constructed close to Mount Olive on Harrells Hill Road. Two other Wayne County solar farms are in early stages of development.

Duplin County has also seen solar farms flock to its fields. At least 14 solar farms are in development in the county, with one 400-acre solar farm planned near Warsaw.
