A man police say raped a 20-year-old Goldsboro woman in the midst of an armed robbery in an apartment in the 900 block of Hugh Street late Wednesday is in custody.

Christopher McKinney Barrett, 20, of 901 Sycamore St., is charged with first-degree rape, two counts of first-degree sexual offense, three counts of second-degree kidnapping and robbery with a dangerous weapon.

He is currently being held in the Wayne county Jail under an $800,000 secured bond.

Barrett allegedly entered the victim's apartment with a gun just after 11 p.m. Wednesday.

Once inside, he sexually assaulted the female and robbed her, according to a police report.

Two men, Elais Henderson, 26, of 109 Byron Place, and Kalob Barrett, 17, of 209 Malloy St., both listed as victims, were inside the home, the report said.

A 15-month-old child was also in the home at the time.

Barrett allegedly left the residence with $150 in stolen cash, two packs of Newport cigarettes, three packs of cigars and marijuana. He threatened to return later and take more items.

Investigators immediately identified Barrett as a suspect in the case and secured warrants for his arrest.

A city-wide search Thursday turned up nothing.

Investigators caught up with Barrett Friday, however, at a residence in the Carolina Pines Trailer Park on North William Street just after 1 p.m.

Barrett was taken into custody without incident.

He is scheduled for a first-appearance in Wayne County Court on Monday.
