The deadline for donations to "Wreaths Across America," a project to place a wreath on the grave of every veteran, is drawing near.
On Saturday, Dec. 14, at noon, ceremonies will be held across the nation to lay the wreaths in honor of the service men and women. In Wayne County, the ceremony will be observed at Evergreen Cemetery on U.S. 70 West with veterans groups and Seymour Johnson AFB Honor Guard.
The local branch of the organization has set a goal of raising $6,800 for wreaths. The deadline for receiving donations is Dec. 1. The money would cover the cost of laying a wreath on the grave of every veteran buried at Evergreen -- all 450 of them.
The cost of a wreath is $15. They can be ordered by mailing a check made payable to Wreaths Across America to Emily Tucker at 204 Creekside Drive, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
Not only are donations needed, but volunteers to help lay the wreaths.
