DGDC sets plans for annual banquet

Area residents will gather on the lawn of the Wayne County Courthouse Friday for the Downtown Goldsboro Development Corp.'s Annual Dinner and Awards Ceremony.
The reception will kick off at 6:30 p.m., with the awards ceremony beginning at 8 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by saxophonist Scott McConnaughey.
The dinner is held each year to reflect back on what has happened in downtown during the year, to look forward to the coming year and to recognize individuals, businesses or organizations that have helped to make downtown a better place.
Outgoing DGDC president Geoff Hulse will be recognized at the dinner for his involvement in many downtown city projects including Streetscape, the U.S. Department of Transportation TIGER 2013 grant and the new DGDC building on John Street.
DGDC Vice President Terry Light will officially take over as president.
A presentation will be given before dinner is served to highlight what the DGDC has been up to in the last year from applying for and receiving the TIGER 2013 grant for downtown transportation projects as well as future plans for the expansion of Cornerstone Commons and moving the Center Street Jams there.
Tickets to the dinner cost $30 and can be obtained through the DGDC office.
The dinner will be catered by Central Lunch/Los Fogones.

Best Promotional or Marketing Effort -- Sallie's Bridal Shop
Best New Business -- The Village Rising
Indicator of the Year -- Vollis Simpson Whirligig for the first major public art installation in downtown
The Thank You Award -- Elite Fashions and the Goldsboro Police Department, Selective Enforcement Unit
The 2013 Award of Merit nominations are:
Mary Johnstone Award of Merit for Historic Preservation: Amy and Jay Bauer and the Friends of Town Meeting Hall.
DGDC Volunteer of the Year: Tom and Dawn Potter, Jim Hinnant, Kenny Flowers and Hallie Hulse.
DGDC Design Improvement: Thistle Bee Quilt Shoppe, Premier Cuts, Laughing Owl and Strickland Law Firm.
DGDC Advocate of the Year: Congressman G.K. Butterfield, Terry Cottle, Richard Stafford and Tasha Logan.
DGDC Board Member of the Year: Michael Headen, Betsy Rosemann and Tasha Logan.
Outstanding Investor: BB&T, NC Dept. of Commerce and Main Street Center.
Most Valuable Supporter: Comfort Suites, DH Daniels Plumbing Co., Jackson & Sons and King Entertainment.
Outstanding Business if the Year: Kinsey Realty, Direct Carpet, Thistle Bee Quilt Shoppe and University Lights.
