WILMINGTON -- A Kinston man has been sentenced to 78 months in prison and fined $10,000 after being found guilty of child pornography.
William Walter Barker, 44, had been charged with one count of receipt of child pornography last year.
The images were discovered on a computer thumbdrive discovered after a meeting of the Fremont Town Board, which Barker had attended to report on the town's audit.
Authorities secured a search warrant for his home and found a computer containing thousands of images of child pornography.
The case was investigated by the Fremont Police Department and the SBI.
The case was part of the Project Safe Childhood initiative, a national program aimed at catching criminals exploiting children. For more information about this national initiative, go to www.projectsafechildhood.gov.
