Elvis impersonator Stephen Freeman will be featured at the United Way kickoff benefit concert at the Paramount Theatre on Friday, Aug. 23.

Elvis will raise the roof again this year as part of United Way of Wayne County's efforts to let people know how they can make a difference in the community.

United Way will kick off its 2013 campaign with a benefit concert Friday, Aug. 23, at the Paramount Theatre.

The event will open at 7:30 p.m. with the local talents of the Malpass Brothers and father/daughter team of Samantha and Daniel Casey.

At 8 p.m., Elvis will take the stage, as tribute artist Stephen Freeman belts out some of the King's best-known tunes.

Freeman, a former policeman, began impersonating Elvis 15 years ago because of his love for the legendary singer and his music.

"I got caught up in his charisma like everyone else did," Freeman said. "I was ridiculously obsessed with Elvis. That's what hooked me."

Tickets are $20 for general reserved seating and $35 for the VIP pre-show meet and greet with all the acts, who will also be available for photos.

The kickoff event is also a chance for United Way to encourage local residents to become part of the organization's efforts to make the community a better place.

In addition to introducing the annual campaign, the chairman, Goldsboro City Manager Scott Stevens, will give an update on the Frontrunners Campaign -- and share a few secrets about the upcoming community campaign. Volunteers will share why supporting the United Way makes a difference.

"I think this concert just allows us to reach an audience that might not normally hear about United Way and its plans for the community," said United Way's community engagement manager Catherine LeChot. "And the concert comes at the tail end of Days of Caring, and we'll have results from that."

Tickets for the kickoff are available through the Paramount Theatre's box office by calling 919-583-8432 or may be reserved online at www.goldsboroparamount.com.
