DUDLEY -- A Dudley man shot in the chest at about 4:30 a.m. today in the area of Genoa Road has been airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said.
Investigators were unable to speak with the victim, Anthony Scott Carter, 19, of 122 Erik Drive, before he was prepped for lifeflight and transferred.
Carter arrived at the doorstep of an acquaintance, Nicole Powell, at a home on Genoa Road, covered in blood, according to the report.
Ms. Powell drove Carter to Wayne Memorial Hospital in her vehicle.
There is no active crime scene. There are no witnesses and no suspects at this time, according to the report.
"All we know right now is what is on the report," Maj. Tom Effler said.
What Ms. Powell was able to tell investigators was that Carter said he had been robbed and shot.
The report also stated that the victim told nurses it was a "drug deal gone bad."
Investigators are following up on what they know so far and are hoping to be able to speak to Carter soon. He was listed in critical condition early today.
