The N.C. State Highway Patrol has positively identified the man killed in a single-car accident on Hooks Road in Fremont Sunday.
Euberto Morales Gonzales, 22, of 400 E. Pippin St., died just after 8:30 p.m. when his 2003 Dodge Neon drifted left of center and crashed into a cement portion of a bridge at 55 miles per hour.
NCHP Sgt. J.K. Whitley said alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the accident, neither was speed.
The dashboard was knocked out of the vehicle, as was the speedometer, which was stuck on 55 m.p.h., Whitley said.
"That is a pretty good indication of how fast he was going."
Whitley also said there were no traces of a skid mark anywhere on the road, meaning Gonzales never touched the brakes.
He was wearing his seat belt at the time of impact.
