Wayne County Public Schools has begun its summer flex schedule, converting to a four-day workweek from now until Aug. 9.
The district will operate on a 10-hour-day schedule Monday through Thursday, with offices closed on Fridays. Administrative offices, including the child nutrition and exceptional children's departments will be open from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Hours of operation will vary at the district's 31 individual schools and other departments, including transportation, maintenance, technology support and operations. For a complete listing of the schedules, consult the district website.
Three schools which operate on a different yearly calendar will also run a four-day work week on the following schedule: Dillard Middle, from June 17-Aug. 2, and Wayne Early/Middle College High and Wayne School of Engineering from May 28-July 26.
WCPS first introduced the summer schedule in 2006 to cut operation expenses when classes were not in session. In addition to being closed on Fridays, the district will also observe the Fourth of July holiday, which falls on a Thursday.
