Emily Efird, a former teacher at James Kenan High School in Warsaw, has been arrested and charged for allegedly having sexual relations with a student.
Efird, 31, was arrested June 11 and was charged with three counts of sex with a student, two counts of indecent liberties and a single count of a crime against nature.
She has since been released on a $25,000 secured bond.
Duplin County Schools became aware of the accusation on April 8 and suspended the teacher with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.
"The teacher was immediately suspended and resigned one week later. We trust the judicial system will address this matter," the school system said in a statement.
