Applications for the Optimist Club of Goldsboro's computer summer camp must be received by June 28. Enrollment is on a first-to-apply, first-to-be-accepted basis.
An email will be sent by July 5 to each applicant to notify them of their acceptance status, and if accepted, which session to attend.
The camp is designed for children enrolled in grades 6 through 8 in Wayne County Public Schools for the 2013-2014 school year.
Children attending the Optimist Computers4Kids Summer Camp will learn the skills necessary to refurbish and build their own functional computer system from used computer parts. They will also learn how to install the Linux Mint operating system.
Three sessions of the camp will be held at the Edgerton Building, 205 East Walnut St.:
* July 9, 10, and 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
* July 16, 17, and 18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
* July 23, 24, and 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Each session will have a maximum enrollment of six children, and enrollment is on a first-to-apply, first-to-be-accepted basis.
A $50 enrollment fee is required on the first day of each session. Snacks will be provided by the Optimist Club each day, but children are required to provide their own lunch. Parents also have the option to drop off a lunch bag for their children between noon and 12:30 p.m. each session day.
At least two adults, an instructor and an assistant, from the Optimist Club of Goldsboro will be present at all times during the camp.
Children who complete the camp will receive a certificate of completion and will be able to take their computer system home with them.
