A meeting to discuss reorganization of Wayne County Public Schools' transportation department has again been postponed.
The finance policy committee of the Board of Education had originally been scheduled for this past Tuesday at the administrative offices on Royall Avenue.
Raymond Smith, director of transportation, was slated to make a presentation to the committee and other school officials.
After nearly an hour, though, when he failed to show up and could not be reached by the superintendent, the meeting was disbanded. Two of the three committee members -- Rick Pridgen and Chris West -- said they had other commitments and could not wait any longer. They asked about the procedure to reschedule.
The third member of the committee, Thelma Smith, was absent.
Dr. Steven Taylor, schools superintendent, said that setting a meeting time requires 48 hours notice.
Before noon Tuesday, email notification was sent out announcing a new meeting time Friday at 10 a.m.
But on Wednesday afternoon, a subsequent email was distributed, saying that the committee meeting was canceled.
Ken Derksen, public information officer, said he expects another time will be set for the group to meet and attributed the latest change to a scheduling conflict with the board members.
