RALEIGH -- A man with Goldsboro ties faces charges of second-degree murder in connection with a fatal traffic accident in March.

Ray Norman Rouse IV, 34, of Raleigh, was released from the hospital Thursday and jailed under $2 million bond.

He was expected to make his first court appearance Thursday afternoon and afterward was to be taken to Central Prison, where he will continue to receive care for injuries he suffered in the wreck that killed an elderly couple.

Rouse also faces charges of felony death by motor vehicle, drunken driving and driving the wrong way.

Ormond Jackson Bailey, 83, and his wife, Gaynell Batton Bailey, 79, died from their injuries shortly after the crash, which occurred March 17 on Wade Avenue near the Glenwood Avenue exit.

According to an updated wreck report, Rouse had a blood-alcohol content of .17 at the time of the accident.

Rouse pleaded guilty to driving while impaired in Durham County after a September 2001 arrest. Drunken driving charges against him were dismissed in Wake County in April 2005 and February 2006.
