A story in Monday's News-Argus said that the N.C. Board of Funeral Services has revoked the pre-needs license of Rhodes Funeral Home at 708 S. Slocumb St. as a result of bookkeeping violations discovered during a three-month investigation that began in November 2012, and that the funeral home is now barred from selling pre-needs contracts.

However, according to the consent order from the state board that revocation was stayed, provided that Rhodes Funeral Home meets certain conditions. Those conditions include admitting to having committed the violations, being placed on a one-year probation, not knowingly violating any other pre-need rules and laws, and correcting the more than 20 violations within 60 days of the April 10 order. In addition, the manager and all pre-need licensees must complete a continuing education course on pre-need laws and rules conducted by the board.

If during the one-year probationary period the board finds the funeral home to have violated those conditions, a hearing will be held and the stay on the pre-need license revocation could be lifted or other disciplinary could be taken.

In the meantime, however, the funeral home is still licensed to perform funerals.
